Making a Start - Trello for Business Planning

This post is the first in a new series I would like to cover about how you can go about making a start on your business. I struggled in my early days to know where to focus my attention. As a result, I spent a lot of time procrastinating and wasting time on unimportant tasks. I hope this series helps to give you some insights into how you can start in a more focused and purposeful way. It will be jam-packed with many ideas you can add to your massive action list and start working on today!

I know I have already blogged about Trello, but it needs another mention because it is just so amazing and has boosted my productivity so much. In addition, it is free and so worth investigating. I use it in my personal life in so many ways, but I have also found it a game-changer for my business planning. Remember to set up separate workspaces to get ten free boards per workspace, so you won't need to pay in your early stages of using it.

I created a board with a weekly schedule of what I plan to achieve. I have each day of the week as lists, a list for 'next week' and another list for small jobs I can tackle through the week when I have time (such as at night when my kids are in bed). Under each list, I add cards that contain tasks to be clear on what I need to do, and I'm ready to use any time I have available.

I have another board with an overarching plan for my business. It has become a massive action list of everything I need to do. Lists I have on this board include a list for each month of this year, a list for 'next year', a list for what I want to listen to or read, another for courses I would like to do, a list for completed task cards and another list for other ideas I have.

I have a third board that contains all the tactics and strategies I have learnt from everything I am reading/courses I'm taking/podcasts I'm listening to/webinars I'm watching,/books I'm listening to. It has been fantastic as I keep adding to it every time I hear something, and it has become such a treasure trove of information and next steps for me. I have many different subjects running as lists, and I add a card for each new idea I hear. Subjects I have as a list include advertising, product creation, social media, funnels, email marketing, membership, content, website, events, lead magnets, sales pages, freebies, free training, great ideas, podcasts, events and 'biz life'. I can take notes on my phone as I see and hear new ideas. I also take photos and screenshots of helpful information, which I save on cards as I go.

As I get further into creating and growing my business, I am sure that I will find many new ways to use Trello to keep track of everything I need to do. But for now, these three boards are working well and helping me achieve a lot.
