Creating Time in Your Week - Social Media and Email

I know this is not easy to do, but I decided to spend less time on social media and emails, and it gave me so much time back in my week to do what I wanted to. I spent a lot of time scrolling on Facebook and Instagram and going down all sorts of rabbit holes. I realised that if I wanted to get going with other projects, such as starting my business, some things, such as hours spent on social media each week, would have to go. My free time was precious, and I had to get more intentional about using it.

About a year after my son was born, I removed the Facebook and Instagram apps from my phone. I was home with him a lot during the day, and I found that I would check it every time I walked past my phone. Of course, there was nothing I needed to see, but it was like some nervous tick I couldn't control. That was amazing to do, and after a while, I didn't miss it. For a time, I still spent time on Facebook and Instagram on my computer at night. Then, a bit over a year ago, I just stopped looking at both applications every day. I still have an account open for both and get notified of any event invites or big announcements in my emails, but I am not engaging with them frequently.

Another thing I did was unsubscribe from a lot of unnecessary emails in my email to keep my inbox manageable, so I wasn't wasting lots of time sorting through emails I didn't need. For example, every time I purchased something online, the business would add me to a mailing list, and my inbox was full of irrelevant emails.

Engaging with social media will be a work in progress for me as I embark on setting up my business and spend a lot more time on emails and social media, including advertising. However, I still plan to have clear boundaries and not just be on my phone all day long, especially with my kids watching the example I am setting for them.
