Making a Start - Set Up Socials

When I launched my website, I focused on setting up the following social accounts:

I decided to open business accounts across these platforms, so I have better access to insights about social media user views and engagement. A business account will also enable me to run ad campaigns in future. When choosing your platforms, you need to create a presence where your customers spend their time, including Tik Tok, YouTube and Twitter.

For my Instagram account, I claimed the handle @alisonosullivancoaching, and I could secure that across all my social platforms. I also created a landing page on my website that I could use as my bio-links page on Instagram rather than something like Linktree. I put several links on this page that Instagram visitors could click on, including my website, blog, opt-in and newsletter subscription form.

In my early days of business, I plan on posting on my socials approximately six times per week – each day, Monday to Friday and then once on the weekend. I am keen to enjoy the process of engaging with social media and don't want to get overwhelmed or bogged down by creating content. So I am sharing a lot of behind-the-scenes of my business journey and repurposing a lot of content from my blog and newsletters to take the pressure off. I can post my content to Instagram and Facebook similarly (and often share an Instagram post straight to Facebook). I have realised that I will need to create pins on Pinterest differently to stop the scroll (given that Pinterest is more of a search engine).

I have started scheduling my social media posts through the Canva planner, which has been so helpful. It allows me to post to all three platforms directly, and I can also easily resize the graphics I create for the different platforms. I have also created a list of hashtags I can use for Instagram and copy them to each post from a Trello board I have saved them on.
