It's Time to Start My Online Business.
Jun 24, 2022It's Time to Start My Online Business.
It's time. I've been dreaming about, planning, debating, researching my idea to start an online business for so long, and it is time to now sit down and start. So, where do I begin to let you in on my story?
About two and a bit years ago, I took an online course about creating an online business and the content in this course left me so inspired and so fired up about a whole new world of possibilities. I am a big podcast and audio listener, and I inhaled this course – 12 hours + of content. This course ignited a new passion and interest in me, but then I got busy with my then 2yo and six month old and all of the mum and family life things. A few weeks after I finished listening, Covid also struck and rocked all of our worlds in ways we had never even comprehended were possible #lockdownlife. My husband started working from home and has been working from home since March 2020, I was working one day per week, and there was always a lot going on. But I never stopped thinking about my idea to start an online business.
I have always loved mentoring and supporting others to fulfil their potential. With a strong background in Business and Education, I have found all sorts of ways to use my skills to develop and mentor those around me. My work has included:
- Secondary school teaching for the past twelve years.
- Working as a Management Accountant for Oxfam.
- Volunteering as a Board Treasurer for a local food rescue charity.
- Supporting my parents with their Accounting and Tax for their small business,
- Doing my husband's tax pro bono each year ;-).
By far, the most amazing role I've had is Mama to my beautiful children – my 4yo son and 3yo daughter. It is so hard to put into words how incredible the past few years with them have been. They light up my husband's and my world, and we are so blessed to be their parents. I love everything about them, all our time together, and all we are building as a family.
I have had so much support from many beautiful Mamas around me throughout my motherhood journey. I have loved sharing so much - watching them all learn and grow as Mothers, listening to their stories, having lots of play and coffee dates. We have supported each other through problems and challenges, shared tips and tricks and constantly tried to figure out how to manage the juggle of being a Mama alongside so many different roles. It is extraordinary how much growth we have all experienced, and I have seen and experienced myself big rethinks about where we are, where we want to go and how we want to live each day so that we can best support our families.
I have watched as Mamas around me have grappled with all things work and family: going back to work, staying at home, enrolling in further study, childcare, preschool, primary school, high school, taking parental leave, going back to work after an extended absence, changing jobs, moving house, moving towns, going down to part-time, going up to fulltime. I have grappled with similar questions and challenges. What if there are ways for Mums to make these challenges easier and achieve a better work-life balance doing work they love? Like my beautiful friend with three children who has a passion for Pilates and wants to get a side hustle going but struggles to know where to start. Or my exceptionally talented and creative friend, who wants to spend more time on her artwork than the nuts and bolts of business building. Or my friend who has a highly regarded degree qualification and years of professional work experience but hasn't had her eyes opened to ways that she can still derive an income from this from home, rather than taking on casual work outside of her degree. Or my friend who is so intelligent and well-qualified and has a mind-blowing business skillset but has found it difficult to re-enter the workforce after having a baby and has lost a lot of confidence. She still has so many options and possibilities, though she struggles to see them.
What if I could help all my friends to achieve their dreams and be the best mums they can be? What if I can help you too? Wouldn't it be amazing to design your dream life and live it? Imagine if you could be flexible with your week. What if you could be at school pick-ups and drop-offs and school activities? What if you could be present in the afternoons and evenings to support your kids, eat with them and help with homework? What if you could take school holidays off and travel with your family? What if you could exercise and get other forms of self-care in during your workday? What if you could set up a beautiful home office that allows you to thrive? What if you could set your business up using automated schedulers, programs and plans to give you more family time? What if you could outsource some things, so you are not completely overwhelmed? What if you could make a lot of money and be financially secure? What if you could be in control of your work and future? What if you could help people change their lives and achieve their dreams? What if you loved what you were doing? I completely understand where you are right now because I am you.
