Today, in 3 minutes or less, you'll learn:

  1. My top six takeaways from a digital declutter course I recently undertook.
  2. Be sure to follow Kiah Worling for expert help with all things systems and IT.
  3. Taking some time to do this will significantly impact your productivity and your mind space!

The start of a new year is a perfect time to tidy up—not just your physical space but your digital world. Over the Christmas break, I took a 'Summer School' course on digital decluttering with Kiah Worling, and the changes I made have been huge. Kiah is my new go-to expert for all things IT, and I highly recommend checking out her offerings if you feel a deep dive into your tech and processes would be helpful, too.

Today, I want to share some of my key takeaways in the hope that they can help you simplify and organise your digital life, creating so much more space for you to focus and create!

Separate Personal and Business

My personal and business files and systems were all over the place. After a thorough audit, I created distinct folders, calendars, drives, and accounts for business and personal use. It is now much easier to find everything, and I have created important separations between my work and the rest of my life.

Tidy Up Your Inbox

My emails were a mess—too many accounts and thousands of emails that blew out when my kids were babies. I tidied up my accounts a lot and deleted a lot of emails. Going through a big 'unsubscribe' process was also very helpful and has meant my inbox is now much more manageable.

Work With An Expert

By working with Kiah directly and learning so much from her, I saved myself so much time and energy. Don't be afraid to spend money to work with an expert and get such good advice. I only paid a small outlay for this course ($248 for eight Zoom sessions and support in a WattsApp group), but I quickly gained so much valuable information. I picked up lots of great tips and received very personalised support – for example, moving my business email over from Microsoft (which I thought I was locked into due to where my domain was held) to a Google Workspace was a fantastic move. Kiah guided me through the whole process.

Set Up Google Chrome Profiles

I didn't even know these existed, but I LOVE them. I created a Chrome profile for my personal and business accounts, and all of my key accounts are bookmarked and the passwords saved. Of course, set up as many two-factor authentications as possible to increase security and change your passwords regularly. My workflows are now much more streamlined, and I love that I can jump on any computer (or my phone), log in and have everything ready to start working with.

Plan Your Ideal Calendar

Take control of your time by designing an ideal week. In my business calendar, I have created a separate calendar that has my ideal week planned out, and I aim to move towards this as much as I can over the next few months. I feel this is so important to ensure I am focused and working on needle-moving tasks rather than just busy work. I have also made plans for personal commitments and rest, which is so important to prevent burnout.

Audit What You Have and Need

This course was also a great chance to reflect on the tools, subscriptions and systems I had in place to see whether I could save any cost or time. I also learnt a lot about the benefits of some tools over others. For example, I am now thinking about switching my calendar/booking software from Calendly to Acuity, as Kiah was able to show me how much better Acuity is with client communication (specifically emails).

A clean digital space reduces stress and boosts productivity. When everything is where it should be, you'll spend less time searching and more time focused on what truly matters.

Take some time this week to start your digital decluttering. Small steps can lead to big changes. Let me know how it goes—I'd love to hear what's working for you!
