Today, in 3 minutes or less, you’ll learn:

  1. It is helpful to spend 20-30 mins each week mapping out business and family priorities to stay organised.
  2. Scheduling work, family, rest, and self-care will create balance and lessen the feeling of being overwhelmed.
  3. Plan meals, clear your workspace, and prep content in advance for a smoother week.

As a busy mum running a business, diving straight into work without a clear plan can happen easily. It's problematic and unproductive to travel through your week as a hot mess. My secret weapon to feeling better about everything I need to do is taking 20-30 minutes at the start of each week to map out my tasks and priorities. In this newsletter, I want to focus on weekly planning tips with you so that you can feel more balanced and productive.

Here's how to make the most of this time:

Set Aside Time

The essential component is planning your week at the start of each week. It may be setting aside time on a Sunday afternoon, Sunday night, or even a Monday morning. Ensure that this time is uninterrupted and that you can be consistent with it, too. Make it fun, too—pour a nice hot drink, listen to some music, light a candle—whatever helps to make sure you actually sit down and do it!

Plan Your Tasks

Start by writing down everything on your mind for the week—get it out of your head and into a system. Use tools like Trello or a simple to-do list to organise your tasks. Write down key tasks and categorise them into priorities (big rocks), smaller to-dos (pebbles), and quick tasks (sand). I encourage you to focus on the big rocks first (see my previous newsletter about setting priorities here)!

Review Your Goals

Check in with your business and personal goals. A key question to ask yourself is, 'What's the one big thing you want to accomplish this week?'

Time-Block Your Schedule

Using an electronic calendar or paper diary (or anything else that works for you that you will look at regularly), assign time for work, family, rest and self-care. Plan school drop-offs, meal prep, extra-curricular activities, and key business tasks so you feel in control of mum and business life.

Organise Family and Home Tasks

Think about how you can ease your mental load and free up space throughout your week to work on your business. Plan meals, set up childcare arrangements, simplify housework (e.g., robot vacuums and scheduling washing on certain days), and coordinate family activities.

Prep Your Content and Marketing

Schedule social media posts, outline emails, or prep content in advance so you won't have to scramble at the last minute. You may build this into your work time, so you only need to do a quick review during your weekly planning time.

Clear Your Digital and Physical Space

A tidy workspace and organised inbox can help you feel in control and ready to take on the week.

This small habit creates clarity, reduces stress, and helps you stay on track with your business and home life without feeling overwhelmed. Try it this week and see the difference!
