Today, in 4 minutes or less, you’ll learn:

  1. Canva's Brand Kit eliminates branding inconsistencies by storing all your brand elements (logos, colours, and fonts) in one easily accessible place, saving precious time for busy mums.
  2. Setting up is simple: save your logo, choose brand colours, select fonts, and you're ready to create professional-looking designs.
  3. You don't need to perfect everything at once - start with just one element (like colours or logo) and build your brand kit gradually over time.

Building a brand from scratch can feel overwhelming, especially when you're a busy mum with little design experience. You may be copying and pasting colours from old designs. Do you need help remembering which fonts you used across designs? Is each piece of content taking you forever to finish?

I love using Canva — it's my go-to tool for creating professional-looking designs without the steep learning curve of more complex programs like Photoshop. Canva turned me into a design whizz, and I couldn't imagine how time-consuming it must have been for business owners to create branded materials before it!

Today, I want to introduce you to Canva's Brand Kit, a fantastic feature to help you keep your branding consistent across everything you create. If you are new to Canva, I encourage you to read this previous blog post first.

What's the Canva Brand Kit?

In Canva, the Brand Kit allows you to save and quickly access your unique brand colours, fonts, and logo. Having all of these at your fingertips makes it easy to ensure everything you design aligns with your brand — this is so helpful as you don't have to reinvent the wheel whenever you create a social post or document. You can find the Brand Kit easily in your Canva sidebar under 'Brand'.

Here's how you can set up your Brand Kit in Canva to make your designs consistent and professional-looking:

#1 Create and Save Your Logo

Canva has tons of logo templates from which to choose. Experiment with different designs until you find one that represents your brand. Once you're happy with it, save your logo to the Brand Kit. From then on, it'll be just a click away whenever you need it.

#2 Define Your Brand Colours

Choosing the right colours for your brand can make a significant impact. Canva offers palette options, or you can create a custom scheme.

I created mine using the following:

  • I used Coolors to pull colours from a favourite necklace, and it generated a palette I loved.
  • Another great tool is UI Gradients, which helps you choose complementary shades for lighter and darker variations.

Once you finalise your colours, add them to your Canva Brand Kit by entering the colour codes. This way, they're always available to keep your designs consistent.

Pro tip: I also added these codes to Kajabi, so I am using them across my website.

#3 Select Your Fonts

In the Canva Brand Kit, you can set your primary fonts for titles, subtitles, headings, and body text. Consistent fonts create a unified look across all your materials, from social posts to client documents. Do you need help choosing fonts? Pick a simple and easy-to-read font for your body text and something eye-catching for headings. Canva has plenty to choose from!

#4 Add Your Brand Voice

You can also use some of the AI-powered magic writing tools now offered by Canva to your advantage. By adding information about your brand voice and guidelines to your Brand Kit, Canva can better tailor the designs it creates to meet your needs.

#5 Add Other Brand Elements

Beyond colours, fonts, and logos, Canva allows you to save specific photos, icons, and graphics in your Brand Kit. For instance, you may want to have specific icons or banners available for every design. Store these in your kit for quick access.

How to Use Your Brand Kit in Designs

Once your Brand Kit is set up, it'll be right there whenever you start a new project in Canva. Just click 'Create a Design', and your saved brand colours, fonts, and logo will be ready to add instantly.

If you work in a team, there are also options for creating brand templates and controls. You can include notes on how and when to use each brand element, so everything stays cohesive as your brand grows.

Don't Wait for Perfection — Start!

Remember, your Brand Kit doesn't need to be perfect initially. A consistent look does help your audience recognise your brand and builds trust over time. But you can finesse this over time as your business grows. The key is to get started!

Try the Canva Brand Kit, and enjoy watching your business come to life visually! Let me know if you try it, and feel free to share any designs with me — I'd love to see them.
