Creating Time in Your Week - Kids Activities
Jul 07, 2022Creating Time in Your Week - Kids Activities
Finding ways to keep my kids busy and engaged has always been helpful, not just so that my kids are happy and settled, but also to free me up to do all the tasks I need to through the day and not be left with a considerable amount to do when they go to bed. It is such a long day if they are constantly at my feet and looking for me to entertain them.
Setting up a craft table for our kids with some kids' chairs has been fantastic. Since starting preschool, my son loves drawing, painting and making things and so is ecstatic with the paper, pens, textas, sticky tape, glue and kids scissors we have set up for him. Whenever a box comes into our house through our shopping, I give it to him, and he is off and racing with a new design. I also bought a kid's painting easel at Officeworks that we leave outside and fill with paint, so it is ready to go. Our kids can pull the plug out of the top of each paint cup, grab a brush underneath and start painting. I found it too hard to keep creating a 'painting event' by setting up paint from the art box and packing it away.
We also have blocks, puzzles, books, a train set, homemade playdough and other toys that our kids can access easily. My daughter loves roaming around the different activities and will spend a long time focused on each one. A great tip is buying some large plastic craft eyes from Kmart or Spotlight to play with playdough. The eyes make it so easy for the kids to create creatures, staying more engaged.
Whenever my kids play with sand and water through a hose, I also find that they will spend a long time outside. So, I just put hats and sunscreen on them and watch through the back door and windows, and they happily play together.
