Today, in 4 minutes or less, you’ll learn:

  1. How to keep business and personal life separate with a dedicated Chrome profile.
  2. You can save time by having all your business bookmarks, passwords, and tools in one place.
  3. You can easily switch between profiles for seamless account management.

Running a business while managing family life can feel chaotic, but here’s a simple trick to keep things organised—set up Google Chrome profiles! Kiah Worling taught me how to use these well in her digital cleanup course over the summer, and they have been such a game-changer for me.

Chrome Profiles are so helpful for lots of reasons:

  • Keep business and personal life separate: no more mixing work emails with school newsletters!
  • Save time: open Chrome, and all your business bookmarks, passwords, and extensions are ready. This is the BEST part—because all your passwords are saved, you can just open what you need and go!
  • Switch between profiles easily: manage multiple accounts (business, personal, clients) with just a click. You can also set up separate profiles for work you are completing with clients where you need to share passwords and programs.
  • You can work remotely efficiently: once I click into my Google Profile, I am ready to use all my programs, as all the passwords are saved. This has been helpful if I have borrowed my husband’s laptop, for example. Be careful, though, if you are using a public computer. Make sure your Chrome Profile is signed out of and removed from any Chrome browsers you have used.
  • Easily onboard new staff: profiles are also a fantastic way to onboard new staff. You can set up a profile with all the programs, extensions, bookmarks, and passwords they will need, and then they are ready to work as soon as they open the profile.

To set up a Google Chrome profile, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open Google Chrome internet browser on your computer.
  2. Click your profile icon (top-right corner).
  3. Select ‘Add new profile’.
  4. Sign in with your Google business or personal account (or select ‘continue without an account’).
  5. Once setup, customise by adding bookmarks for all the key programs that you use, adding extensions, and saving passwords. Of course, for extra security, I encourage you to add two-factor authentication and change passwords regularly to protect your key accounts.

You can now click your profile icon every time you open Chrome and seamlessly switch between your business and personal life.

You can also customise your profiles by choosing a separate colour for each profile and an avatar. My business avatar is the same photo I use across all my social media accounts. Bookmark folders can also be created to suit your needs in the Bookmark Manager bar. See below for how I have organised mine:

Setting up Chrome Profiles helped me clean up all my bookmarks and passwords, which was an added bonus. I feel so much more productive now, as when I sit down, I can quickly work on all my key programs. I also really like that all my business and personal information is kept very separate.
