Today, in 3 minutes or less, you’ll learn:

  1. How to add a GIF to your work
  2. How to add emojis to your content
  3. Three tips for effectively adding GIFs and emojis

In today's newsletter, I wanted to share how to add GIFs and emojis to your emails. I will focus on emails, but this information is relevant to all communications you create—social media content, captions, hashtags, and direct messages, to name a few.

Adding GIFs or emojis to your emails can make them more engaging and visually appealing. A well-placed GIF or emoji can inject fun into your emails, breaking the text's monotony and making it more engaging. Adding emojis in subject lines can also significantly boost open rates. An entrepreneur I follow, Tina Tower, saw a 1-2% increase in open rates by adding emojis to her subject lines. Let's start with how to add a GIF and emojis.

Adding a GIF:

  • Visit Giphy.com
  • Search for a GIF that suits your content.
  • Save it as a GIF file.
  • You can drag the GIF directly into your email draft if your email client supports it or upload it by selecting the image upload option in your email client.

Adding an Emoji on a Computer:

For Windows Users:

  • Using the Emoji Keyboard: press the Windows logo key + . (period) during text entry.
  • The emoji keyboard will appear.
  • Select an emoji with the mouse or type to search the available emojis.

For Apple Users:

  • Using the Emoji Keyboard: select Edit > Emoji & Symbols from the menu, or press Fn + E simultaneously.
  • A small window with emojis will appear.
  • Double-click on the emoji you want to insert it into your text.

Tips for Effective Use include the following:

  • Keep it relevant: ensure your emojis and GIFs are relevant to the content and tone of your email.
  • Don't overdo it: use them sparingly to avoid overwhelming your readers or triggering spam filters.
  • Test before sending: always test your emails with different email clients to ensure GIFs and emojis display correctly.

By thoughtfully incorporating GIFs and emojis into your emails, you can make your communications more engaging and increase the likelihood of your emails being opened and read. Happy emailing!
