Today, in 4 minutes or less, you’ll learn:

  1. Canva can help you to create high-value, visually appealing documents quickly and easily.
  2. You can include a personal introduction and a call-to-action that leads readers to your offers, newsletter, or next step.
  3. You can distribute these documents widely and regularly (website, social, email) to connect with your audience.

In this newsletter, I want to share a trick I learned early in my business. You will love this if you have fantastic content and expertise you want to share but get stuck when it comes to publishing it.

I was so happy to discover early on in my business just how easy it was to create beautifully designed documents in Canva. Canva can help you to make such sophisticated and professional looking documents. It is also simple to use and the templates available are amazing.

Here's how to get started:

#1 Choose the Right Template

Canva offers a range of templates perfect for all your business document needs, from pricing guides, welcome guides, lead magnets, flyers, checklists, and client proposals to calendars, letterheads, reports and anything else you need to create. Start by searching in Canva for a template that suits your vision—this will make it easier to get your lead magnet or guide looking polished and professional straightaway.

#2 Creating Content with Ease

The next step is to add your content, images and branding elements (which can all be saved in Canva). For my first lead magnet, I took existing content I'd already written—10 blog posts—and turned them into a guide to help busy mums reclaim 10 hours in their week (see below). You don't always need to start from scratch! Repurpose valuable content you already have and use it as the foundation for your document. Some ideas that might resonate with your audience include:

  • Quick tips or strategies: offer actionable advice, like "10 Tips to Get 10 Hours Back in Your Week".
  • Step-by-step method or secret strategy: share the 'how' behind something you do well in your business.
  • Templates or worksheets: that will help your client solve a problem they have.

#3 Personalise It and Add a Call to Action

Make sure your PDF reflects you. Depending on the purpose of your document, consider adding a quick bio and share why you're passionate about helping your clients solve their problems. Finish with a clear call-to-action (CTA) to lead them to the next step. It could be an invite to check out more resources, book a discovery call, or join your email list for updates.

Additional pro tips include:

  • Keep it simple and clean
  • Use consistent fonts (2-3 max!)
  • Stick to your brand colours
  • Add white space (let it breathe!)
  • Include your personality

#4 Download and Compress Your PDF

Once you've finalised your document, download it as a PDF from Canva. To keep it manageable for sharing, you can use ilovepdf.com to compress the file without sacrificing quality.

#5 Share it Far and Wide

Once your document is ready, it's time to connect with your audience and get it out there!

  • Website: create a form to collect emails in exchange for the free download. After they sign up, send them to a thank-you page and send a follow-up email with the link to the document.
  • Social Media: promote it across your channels and encourage your followers to download it.
  • Email List: send it out as a free resource to your subscribers, letting them know what's inside and how it can benefit them.

#6 Treat it as a ‘Living Document’

Your lead magnet should evolve. Based on feedback from your audience, make tweaks or updates. Keep it fresh and consider creating a new one each month if you can—that way, you're always adding high-value content to your business.

Creating a document in Canva is simple yet effective, helping you reach new clients and share your expertise in a professional way.

Are you ready to get started? Have you created your first lead magnet yet? Here's your first step: look through your content (posts, emails, notes) and pick ONE topic your audience always asks about. Now you are ready to start typing and designing!

I would love to hear how you go.
